Warning: This book doesn't go much into Android development specifics, it's just Java! Which is exactly what I was searching for.

It teaches you only those parts of Java that are needed for Android development. It's a great combination with "Android Programming: The Big Nerd Ranch Guide (Big Nerd Ranch Guides)" which teaches you Android programming, but requires some Java knowledge. Overall great book, it packs lots of information so I had to reread it few times. English is not my native language and I had no problems understanding the content of this book.

I would recommend this book to people who have at least some basic understanding of programming concepts and want to learn just enough Java to get into Android development.

I already knew Java beforehand from my intro CS-class. But this one took my knowledge to another lever. I discovered lots of features in Java I didn't know about, and it covered several essential intermediate-advanced subjects like concurrency quite well. For people who have never programmed this would not be a good buy. You need to know a programming language to grasp the concepts in this book. For people wanting to learn Android - there are better options out there. This books doesn't teach you how to make Android apps, but rather the language and concepts you will use to develop Android (and non-Android) applications.
For people who just simply want to become better Java programmers I wholeheartedly recommend this book. It has become my go-to guide when I need to learn something for a class or personal Java projects.
